Nordic-Bangladesh relationship: 50 years through 50 voices

  • May 29, 2022

This week we celebrated #NordicWeek and the 50th anniversary of friendship between the Nordic countries and Bangladesh! Our next Story from the campaign โ€œSweden & Bangladesh: 50 years through 50 voicesโ€๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฉ is about a true champion for Nordic-Bangladesh relations. ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

Nathalie Tranefeldt, is the Secretary-General of the Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry and active board member of the Nordic Club in Bangladesh. Since autumn of 2021, she is also serving as the president of Sweden Bangladesh Business Council.

Nathalie Tranefeldt is a regional director and department manager at the Swedish management consultancy company Hifab International AB, where she has worked for the past 20 years. Living in Bangladesh for almost a decade, she is now very familiar with the country’s traditions, culture, and business environment.

“I am impressed by the incredible talent and ambition of the Bangladesh business community, the dynamic and bright students, and, of course, the warmth and generosity of its people,โ€ says Nathalie and continues: โ€œThere is a well-known saying here: You cry twice, once when you arrive in Bangladesh, and one time when you leave. That has certainly been true to me. Arriving in Bangladesh for the first time in early 2012 I was tired from the trip and looked forward to a rest. To my surprise, I was informed by my flatmate that there was no water available and probably would not be for the whole week. In addition, there was a severe power cut. What a start! However, over the years I have got to know Bangladesh and I feel a deep attachment for the country. Overall, the memories I take away from this wonderful country will be of beauty, tenacity and warmth. And yes, I did cry when I left. But luckily, I am back in Bangladesh as often as I can!”
